Polarizing a transistor?

By polarizing a transistor is meant, how to connect the power supplies to the transistor terminals, so that it works as an amplifier.

Static operating point?

The correct polarization of a transistor aims at establishing and maintaining the correct values ​​for the voltages and currents in the circuit and determining the static operating point.

For the correct operation of an amplifier (the input signal to be amplified and reproduced faithfully at the output), the static operating point must be located about halfway to the load line (see the image in the course).

As the PSF moves to the saturation region or the blocking region, the output signal is distorted.

If the PSF is located in the saturation region the positive half-alternates of the alternating sinusoidal input signal are distorted.

If the PSF is located in the blocking region the negative half-alternates of the alternating sinusoidal input signal are distorted.

Coordinates of the static operating point (IC, VCE) are imposed by the values ​​of the voltages of the polarization sources and by the values ​​of the resistances in the polarization circuits.

  1. The PSF must be located in the middle of the load line on Class A amplifiers. For classes AB and B, the PSF is close to the locking point. That's at AAF.
